Powers of the mind such as telepathy, the ability to send 'pictorial' messages, non-verbally, hypnosis from a distance, the power to influence anothers thoughts, perceptions, and actions from afar, telekinesis, the ability to move or alter solid objects with the mind.

We found that there were persons born with these abilities and could use them at will quite naturally and that others of average intelligence could be trained in such procedures. Today we will explore another of these hidden powers, the ability to view persons, objects, and events both past, present, and future from afar.

Remote Viewing:

Remote Viewing would be more accurately described as 'Remote Perceptions'. Other terms often used are clairvoyance and astrotravel but these terms conjure up visions of frauds, fakes, and con artists. Therefore, for the remainder of this article we will use the term "Remote Viewing' exclusively.

The Collective Unconscious:

The Collective Unconscious is a vast and complete Library of all possible persons, places, and events, past, present, and future. It is located outside of space and time. A detailed discussion of this aspect is beyond the scope of this article and the reader is referred to the many published works of C.G. Jung, the famous psychiatrist, who coined the term and explored its many and varied manifestations.

The Collective Unconscious does not recognize dates and times only persons, places, and events. When one quarries the Library of the Collective Unconscious, (which is what one does in Remote Viewing), one must be specific as to what person, place, and/or event otherwise one would get all of the events of that person's life from birth to death and thus a different view and/or answer with each Remote Viewing exercise.

Example:

General George Washington, 1st President of the United States! This would mean, 'all possible events in the life of George Washington from birth to death!'. A more correct and spacific quarry would be: General George Washington, 1st President of the United States, Crossing the Deleware! One must also avoid ambiguous questions such as,'Where will the next terrorist attack occur in the United States?'. This is ambiguous because 'one man's terrorist is another man's Freedom Fighter!'. The correct quarry would be, 'Where will the next major attack on the United States occur?'.

A Brief History:

In the Western world, especially in the United States, psychic abilities were, for the most part, considered impossible, insane, anti-religious, and were ridiculed or outright forbidden by law, (witchcraft), and people who believed in such things were, at best, ostracized or at worst, imprisoned, placed in a mental hospital, or even killed, (witches burned at the stake).

However, in Eastern Europe, such powers were considered quite normal and in more modern times in Western Europe at least, 'tolerated'. After Stalin came to power in the U.S.S.R., all aspects of psychic abilities were considered anti-revolutionary, religious, capitalistic nonsense, and their practice forbidden. To even talk about such things could result in imprisonment. (All except for Stalin himself of course as we saw in part 3.)

After Stalin's death, all of that changed and the Soviet Academy of Sciences went 'full bore' into the study of all psychic phenomena for which they coined the term, 'Psychotronics'. This study included: Hypnosis, telepathy, telekinesis, dowsing, Kirlian photography, skin sight, artifical reincarnation,suggestology, and especially for Soviet Intelligence, Remote Viewing, the later two being kept most secret.

As travel and personal association restrictions eased, more and more information about such studies became available to Western scientists, all except the most secret and even that became known mostly through neutral countries.

The launch of Sputnik in 1957 galvanized the American scientific community to action and established the aerospace industry but when the intelligence community, especially the CIA, heard about the Soviet Union's advances in psychic studies, especially psychic 'spying', panic set in.

The CIA immediately initiated project, 'Gondola Wish',a frantic search, nation wide, especially in the academic community, for any and all persons with puported psychic abilities. When the appropriate individuals were interviewed and selected, project 'Grill Flame' was initiated to train these indiviuals for their spacific intelligence needs.

The Navy also initiated a special Remote Viewing project, 'Aquarius' under the direction of theoretical physicist, Hal Putoff, Ph.D., who was also a Naval Intelligence Officer. We will discuss this project in greater detail later in this article.

With the advent of the Iran-Contra hearings, the CIA again panicked and fearing Congressional reprimands for using humans in experiments which was the case as the result of the former Congressional Church Committee, immediately transfered all of their programs to the Defense Intelligence agency, in particular, the Army, which then established a Remote Viewing Unit at a non-discript location at Fort Meade and funded a training program conducted at Stanford University in California, The SRI Institute, under the direction of Hal Putoff, Russell Targ, and KeithHarary, all Ph.D.s.

At first, persons with known and proven psychic abilities such as Patrick Price, Hella Hammid, and Ingo Swann were trained for the program and later became 'Monitors', (a term which will be explained shortly), along with Puthoff, Targ, and Harary, all of whom became the basis for the entire training team.

The Remote Viewing Training Session:

A number of sites within one half hours drive of SRI Institute were photographed and the object in the photo circled and labeled, 'Target'. The photo, along with directions to the site, was then placed in a sealed envelope with either the latitude and longitude of the site or a randomly selected set of (2), 4-digit coordinates, (i.e. = 4279, 6549 - either way will work), and were written on the front of the envelope. These envelopes were then placed in a locked repository. A training session consisted of the following: Monitor, Viewer, and Beacon. This type of Remote Viewing is known as, 'Beaconing'.

The Monitor directs the session and guides the Viewer in his or her attempts to view the target.
